Born in Milan, Nicolò Beretta always showed a great sense of style and an innate creativity: instead of playing with toy airplanes and cars, he preferred to design clothes and accessories, to play with fabrics and materials, creating fairy tales in which he could dress princesses of fantastic worlds. Eventually, his school curriculum allowed him to deepen his passion, giving him the opportunity to fuse the extreme sensitivities of contemporary art with the doctrines of elegance and feminine beauty. At 14 years old, Nicolò moved to Sydney, Australia to pursue the business objectives of his family. Sydney’s cosmopolitan ambiance and its fervent multicultural communities provided Nicolò with experiences that influenced and forever changed the once young Milanese boy who drew his creative inspiration from this special capital.
In 2011 Nicolò presented his artistic ideas to Manolo Blahnik and Franca Sozzani, some of the fashion world’s most prominent figures. He received positive feedback and encouragement that validated what he once considered to be only a simple dream. With this reinforcement, Nicolò debuted as a tenacious entrepreneur who established Giannico in 2013, registering his brand internationally and choosing to produce his first collection of shoes specifically in Italy. This allowed Nicolò to showcase his first Fall/Winter 2013-2014 collection at the fashion weeks in both Milan and Paris. The collection provoked great interest in important fashion personalities, international buyers, and renowned Fashion Bibles. Since then, high society ladies from all over the world have worn his creations on Hollywood’s red carpets.
2013 proved to be a special year for Nicolò as he could slowly see his dreams turning into realities. Famous talent scout and fashion editor of Vogue Italia, Sara Maino, chose to include Nicolò in the list of the first 140 Emerging Designers of Vogue Italia. Furthermore, in October of 2013, André Leon Talley of Numéro Russia selected Nicolò’s slipper, “Oh my deer!” as one of the top ten most memorable fashion objects of the year.
Nicolò’s success flowed into 2014 when Giannico was selected to participate at the prestigious “Vogue Talents Corner.com” event in collaboration with Vogue Italia and TheCorner.com. Giannico’s exposure and following only grew as many fashion icons such as Franca Sozzani, Anna Wintour, Donatella Versace, Anna Molinari, Carla Sozzani, Anna Dello Russo, and Giuseppe Zanotti appreciated his collection. Later that year, Giannico had the incredible opportunity to be a part of the official calendar of the Milan Fall Fashion week and his first distributed collection was presented at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum.
In March of the following year, a pair of Giannico’s collection was chosen as one of Nina Garcia’s top 10 accessories for Marie Claire USA and several months later, Lady Gaga was spotted two times in New York wearing Giannico. Giannico’s rise in popularity flooded into a busy summer as Nicolò not only created a special edition for Luisa Via Roma, but also won the ‘Who is on Next?’ contest in Rome juried by established individuals such as Franca Sozzani, Pierpaolo Piccioli, Suzy Menkes, Miroslava Duma, Alexander Fury, Laura Lusardi, Bergorf Goodman’s Paola Alvear and Sacks Fifth Avenue’s Colleen Sherin.
In Fall of 2015, Nicolo presented Giannico’s Spring/Summer 2016 collection to attending guests of which include Kate Moss, Jefferson Hack, Delfina Deletrez, and many members of the international press. During the Milan fashion Week of the same season, Chiara Ferragni chose a pair of Giannico shoes as one of her ‘Fashion week essentials’ and only a month later Brandon Maxwell and Lady Gaga chose Nicolo Beretta as one of the eight most promising designers for V Magazine.
2016 has exemplified a year of constant collaboration and growth for Giannico. In February 2016 Giannico launched his collaboration with three legendary figures of the international fashion industry: Ukrainian designer Anna K, Moschino muse Rossella Jardini, and the German label, “Wunderkind,” directed by Wolfgang Joop. Finally, in March of 2016, Forbes Magazine recognized Giannico for its incredible fruition throughout the years and its revolutionary embrace of sheer creativity, naming it one of the top 10 fashion start-ups of the year, and to this day, the determined Nicolò only plans to see Giannico continue to flourish.
